What Are Your Executives For?
“As the vocal representative of history students on campus, we aim to contribute to the university experience that you want. As a group bringing together everyone in the History Department, we are part of the diverse and dynamic university life that we all came here for. You came to Nipissing University for a rich student experience and we want to be part of it! While we welcome all students, NUHS is sensitive to the needs of History students and to do this effectively we need your help. So if you have any suggestions or comments, please drop us a line. We are your society… be a part of it!”

I am a Professor of European history and genocide studies. My research and teaching interests include comparative genocide; war crimes and perpetrator trials; perpetrator testimony, motivation, and behaviour; and, the cultural impact of the Holocaust and genocide in the twenty-first century. Currently I am working on a project on atrocity photography, film, and perpetrator testimony, and another on judicial witnessing and I am preparing for a travel course (HIST 3007) to Poland.
Hello Historians! My name is Alana Javanainen, and I am in my third year of the Concurrent Bachelor of Education program with a Major in History. My main interests include social and cultural history, especially pertaining to Hellenistic civilization and Northern/Eastern Europe. This summer I participated in the Warpath Summer Study program on a trip to Europe with some of my fellow executives, and I absolutely loved the experience (I 100% recommend checking out the trip to Poland next summer). I am extremely passionate about history, and I can’t wait to have a great year being a part of the NUHS!
My name is Christopher Sebastian Svendsen. I am a History Major interested in the cultural, spiritual, and military development of Japan & Russia leading up to the 20th century. If I had to describe myself I would call myself a deranged story teller – a Socrates of less intelligence. If you ever want to talk, ask any history questions, or anything trades-related you can reach me at Cssvendsen874@community.nipissingu.ca or catch me on campus Tuesday through Thursday.
